Ethno researchers met for two days at the beginning of December in York in order to consolidate the first phase of the research. On the first day of the meetings, each researcher presented their case study to the rest of the team providing an opportunity for feedback and reflection. The day concluded with Roger Mantie, our co-investigator heading up the Toronto team, presenting their conceptual framework to the group.
The following day, researchers worked in small groups to begin the process of consolidating the research questions, conceptual vocabulary, and ‘units of analysis’ found in the various case studies into the conceptual framework proposed by the Toronto team. This framework is divided into three areas: “culture and identity”, “situated learning and teaching”, and, “personal, professional and community transformations”. This was a thought-provoking day, as researchers began to consider building a conceptual framework that draws many diverse ideas together, in preparation for the second phase of research.
Our day concluded with the opportunity to attend the York St John Christmas Carol Service at York Minster.
